Preparing to teach the new design and technology AS and A levels TY500 / A16
Summary
Changes to A level specifications will be introduced from 2017 and this course supports design and technology departments to make a smooth transition into the new qualifications. This course is relevant to all teachers of Product Design and Fashion and Textiles across all exam boards, as well as the current design and technology A level.
As well as looking at the new specifications, there will be a strong focus on exam techniques and teaching strategies to help maximise success at A level.

Content will include:
- choosing an A level specification
- adapting and developing current schemes of learning
- curriculum models
- the transition from GCSE to A level and developing an A level mindset in students
- teaching strategies and ideas that maximise learning
- developing higher level thinking skills and exam technique to maximise success
- developing independent learning approaches to the non-examined assessment
Outcomes
- understand the curriculum changes at AS and A level from 2017 and be able to support your department to implement the changes in a manageable way
- review your current curriculum and create a personalised department action plan in order to create a seamless curriculum through to key stage 5
- identify a range of strategies and ideas that will help you create an outstanding design and technology curriculum that maximises progression and engages students
