Maximum and Minimum
This series of excel sheets look at the turning points of quadratic and cubic functions. New examples can be generated on each sheet every time the resource is used.
The first interactive sheet shows the gradient at different points of a quadratic function. The following sheet gives four quadratics functions and invites students to find the coordinates of the turning points and their nature. The graph of each function can also be shown.
The third interactive sheet shows the gradient at different points of a cubic function. The following sheet gives four quadratics functions and invites students to find the coordinates of the turning points and their nature. The graph of each function can also be shown.
The final sheet looks at examples of functions with a point of inflection. The coordinates of the minimum, inflexion point and maximum can be shown next to the graph of the function.
