Difference Patterns

This activity requires students to generate patterns created by the subtraction of integers. Students are asked to record their findings and to explore whether they are able to work backwards.

The resource includes a hand out and a blank grid which can be duplicated for student use. The teachers' notes give hints on how the task can lead to different ways of recording results and how algebra can be used to extend the task.

Students are encouraged to pose their own questions relating to their findings and to prove their results using algebra.

This resource is part of the Churchill Maths Activities collection.
