Populations
These resources from the Wellcome Trust look at how populations grow, change and move, and why understanding them is so important. The resources use real research to illustrate many aspects of the study of populations, including:
- ecology
- epidemiology
- demographics
- population genetics
- evolution and the Hardy-Weinberg principle
- migration
- interdependence
- quorum sensing
The surveying populations animation looks at how different sampling techniques can be used to gather information on population changes in native upland woodland. The film shows students gathering data on buttercup populations in different areas using a multimeter to measure abiotic factors, collecting soil samples and using random sampling.
