Smart Sensors 2

This activity, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), introduces students to how sensors can be used in smart applications of electronic systems.

The resource is designed so that students will know:

• about the difference between simple sensors and smart sensors
• about some applications of smart sensors
• that all technological developments have advantages and disadvantages

The role of smart sensors in our everyday lives is becoming increasingly fundamental. Students are introduced to some recent developments in using smart sensors in control systems. Many of these uses are in health care and other high-tech applications.

In this activity, students learn the differences between smart sensors and ordinary sensors by studying some applications of smart sensors and use a card game to consolidate their understanding of electronic systems.

Related activities can be found in the Smart Sensors sub-collection.

This activity is supported by the videos Smart Sensor Communications and Engineers without Borders.
