Systematics and classification

The classification adopted in this book is based on five kingdoms: Monera, Protista, Plantae, Fungi and Animalia. The book examines how a system of classification is produced and discusses the development of taxonomy, including cladistics. It also covers the principles of numerical taxonomy. The photographs in the book are used to illustrate those characteristics of the organism that give it its place in the classification.
