CPD Taster: Leading primary computing

This is a CPD taster created to give you a better understanding of what to expect when joining one of our primary computing courses. Below you will find a video and a task to do in your own time. Once you have done the activity, book on to Leading primary computing (CP008).

As a new or aspiring computing subject leader, you will need to look at your current planning and resources, identify areas for development and lead the implementation of improvements to move your school forward. In this video Rachel Jackson, subject specialist, Primary STEM, introduces you to the Education for a Connected World Framework to illustrate how you can assess resources with a view to implementing them in your school as part of your role as leader of computing.

Explore

Download the Education for a Connected World Framework and have a look at the eight different strands of online education, set out on page 4.

Select ONE of the strands to focus on and read the detailed guidance for the age range that you teach.

How does your existing planning for this age group meet the outcomes in the Education for a Connected World Framework for the strand you have picked?

Compare

Now register on the Project Evolve website and take a look at the resources for the year group that you teach. Select the strand that you chose to look at from the framework and click on the outcome statements to find suggested activities.

Compare what you currently do with the suggested activities on Project Evolve.

Identify any adaptations that need to be made to your existing planning to ensure children meet the outcomes detailed for this strand in Education for a Connected World.
