In this resource from the Construction Youth Trust, students are asked to carry out a range of calculations when exploring how construction companies cost a potential project- including the amount of profit it may bring. The materials have been written to help a non-teaching STEM professional to work with students in an educational setting.
The resources comes with a collection of student hand-outs. Resource 6 contains comprehensive teacher notes that include a lesson plan with timings, prompts and questions as well as a to-do list for both before and after the session.
The session aims for students to discover careers that they may know little about – including those that help to get construction projects off the ground, and to see how their maths learning relates to their potential future careers.
The materials were written to help schools address Gatsby Benchmark 2: Learning from career and labour market information, Gatsby Benchmark 5: Encounters with employers and industry employees and Gatsby Benchmark 4: Linking curriculum learning to careers.
