Arithmetic Series

This series of interactive excel sheets look at arithmetic series and progressions.

The first sheet gives examples of arithmetic sequences, of which the value of a further term in the sequence, the first term and the common difference can be hidden or revealed. A new set of sequences can be made at the click of a button.

The second sheet displays the formula for the general term of the sequence and formulae for the sum of the first n terms.

The third sheet generates a random series and invites the user to find the value of a particular term, the first term above or below a certain value and the sum of the first n terms. Solutions can be viewed or hidden and a new set of examples can be made at the click of a button.

The last two sheets include questions on arithmetic progressions. The first set of questions requires students to complete a table of values for five randomly generated progressions. The second looks at deducing the first term, common difference and sum of the first k terms, having being given two terms of the arithmetic series.
