Reasoning About Numbers and Shapes

This resource contains an interactive spreadsheet designed to illustrate teaching points and which could be used as the basis of investigations which involve reasoning about number and shape. Each page of the spreadsheet contains a different activity:

Missing digits: create addition and subtraction calculations using given digits.

Make a total: find numbers in groups of twos, threes or fours to make a given total.

Multiplication tables: calculate multiplications to complete a table.

Making rectangles: use a given number of tiles to investigate for many rectangles can be made.

Billiard table: investigate bounces on a billiard table.

Vertex values: work out numbers needed to create the totals at each vertex of a triangle.

The notes for using the activities are provided on a separate tab within the spreadsheet.

This resource has been provided by the Virtual Textbook. It is part of the Geometry and Measure sub-collection, which contains many further curriculum linked interactive spreadsheets.
