Stimulus Response

This video, from the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB), looks at reflex actions and learned behaviour using an engaging combination of animated diagrams and footage of real animal behaviour.

Each stage of the reflex action is analysed, including stimulus, detection, coordination, effector and response. The film shows how scientists can study animal behaviour using simple experiments with battery farm hens, and considers some of the ethical questions around the conditions farm animals are kept in.

Curriculum links include the nervous system, behaviour, learning, battery farming, ethics.
