Global Surgery Challenge
This activity, from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), introduces students to how to create a video pitch to sell a remote surgery system.
It is intended that students will be able to:
• investigate and understand the technology that is required for remote surgery
• understand the advantages and disadvantages of remote surgery
Luigi Santori, after suffering a series of heart attacks is about to undergo heart surgery in a hospital in Rome. Dr Norman Mills, a heart surgeon in London, will carry out the procedure via remote surgery. In the procedure a new pacemaker will be inserted. The doctor will be assisted by a team in Italy.
In this activity students are responsible for reassuring Luigi about the procedure and the aftercare. The activity is supported by the global surgery challenge activity sheet.
