Carbon *suitable for home teaching*

In the build-up to the Christmas Lectures in 2012, the Royal Institution published a new video for every day of advent revealing the elements that really excite and inspire people. Structural biologist Professor Stephen Curry talks about the multiple forms of carbon - an element vital for life on earth but one that could also trigger environmental disaster. Stephen explains that life can arise because of the chemical versatility of carbon, which is illustrated even in pure forms of carbon such as graphite and diamonds. However, as well as depending on carbon for life, we are also causing climate change by the rapid release of carbon dioxide.
