Nuffield Maths: Bronto Books Set C

Nuffield Foundation provide these resources from the Nuffield Maths 5-11 project, which allow students the opportunity to practice using and reading simple mathematical vocabulary. They support, as well as extend, the basic mathematical concepts introduced to young children.

The image of Bronto at the foot of some pages provides elements of surprise, security and fun, as well as making comments that underline or extend the ideas illustrated on that page.

My dad's garage - the ideas of 'lots of' and 'a few' are expressed simply in the context of a garage.

Words for things - helps students to recognise words, for some of the more usual objects, that are used for mathematical activities in the classroom.

In and out - introduces the opposites 'in' and 'out' very simply. Clear illustrations provide strong visual clues to the meaning of these words.

Animal shapes - an activity book based on simple geometric shapes which students can assemble to make animal silhouettes. The shapes on the first page have to be traced by the teacher and made into templates for the children to use, while picture clues help students to follow the simple instructions.

Bronto time - hour times are introduced through a series of Bronto's daily activities.
