Marvellous Microbes I: the Pasteurs
These materials, from the Microbiology Society look at the work of Louis Pasteur and helps students to understand the growth of yeast. There are three resources that can be used together or separately and are suitable for Key Stage Two or Three students.
Marvellous microbes This comic strip follows Louis and Marie Pasteur in their quest to find out what makes bread rise. A recipe for making bread is included at the end of the comic strip.
Yeast power This activity provides students with a set of clear instructions, and cartoon style diagrams, for an experiment which demonstrates respiration in yeast and the production of carbon dioxide. The activity is suitable as a homework task or can be carried out in class.
High rise dough In this practical activity, students see how high dough rises and are encouraged to consider hos the yeast cause it to rise. The activity is suitable as a homework task or can be carried out in class.
