Secondary: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)

Produced by the Health Protection Agency, this e-bug resource contains teacher guidance, stimulus materials and student activity suggestions. In this activity, students consider how sexual activity can lead to the spread of microbes and disease. It highlights how sexually transmitted infections (STI) can potentially transfer harmful microbes without either party knowing.

Students carry out an experiment that models the spread of an infection. It illustrates how many people can be infected unknowingly by unprotected sexual intercourse and how we can prevent this from happening.

A comic strip forms the basis of an extension activity. Each scene of the comic strip sees our two main characters, Amy and Harry, making some good and bad decisions. Students then discuss just how wise these decisions are and how relevant they are to them.
