Kinaesthetic Strategies for Basic Arithmetic
Published by LSIS, this research project was carried out by Bolton Community College. The aim of the research was to devise an effective numeracy foundation learning programme that would address the immediate academic numeracy needs of foundation level students who had previously shown low levels of achievement in mathematics.
Research incorporated an assessment of the effectiveness of ‘interlinked’ kinaesthetic and arithmetic strategies. Results showed that the use of the interlinked kinaesthetic strategies provided and supported the underpinning knowledge needed by these students to develop and apply their numeracy skills.
