Medical Physics in the Electromagnetic Spectrum
This resource, produced by the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), contains a presentation and teachers' notes with worksheets. It illustrates the uses of different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.
The materials show the use of:
* radio waves for mobile phones
* infra red for pulse oximetry, measuring blood flow and thermal imaging
* visible light for endoscopy, a scanning laser opthalmoscope, photodynamic therapy and in treating jaundice
* X-rays in imaging, CT-scans and radiotherapy
