Ratio
Lesson 1 - Introduce notation, including reduction to simpliest form.
Lesson 2 - How to split a given quantity into 2 parts. Also part:whole.
Lesson 3 - Multiplicative relationships and direct proportion.
Lesson 4 - Inverse proportion.
Lesson 5 - Graphical representation.
Year Seven Fractions and Ratio Mini-pack
Look at 'Fractions and ratios resource sheets'.
This pack includes ratio strips which can provide a visual representation. This could be used in lesson 1.
Ratio and Proportion Mystery
This task could be used as an extension in lesson 2.
Ratio Makes Sense
A task in this could be used to develop understanding of a multiplicative relationship between two quantatities.
Under a magnifying glass - developing understanding of ratio by calculating the actual length of objects which have been enlarged by a scale factor
Ratios and Proportions
Extracts of this video can be used to develop pupil understanding of the multiplicative relationship between two quantities.
Ratio
A resource to highlight in this pack is within 'Ratio pack one'. (Page 13).
This task is an introducing ratio card sort. This task can be used in lesson 1 (plenary) or lesson 2 (starter).
Ratio and Proportion
2 resources are in this pack.
The ratio resource could be used as a starter in the second lesson, as pupils were simplifying a given ratio.
The proportion resource can be used to introduce pupils to direct proportion in lesson 3.
Ratio and Proportion
This is a fully comprehensive pack covering topics in all 5 lessons.
Some resources to highlight include a ratio activity involving paper sizes ('activities' - page 3)
The overhead slides (page 2) can be used as whiteboard activities for a starter/plenary.
These can be used to highlight misconceptions and also include extension work (7.2 Paper Sizes) to develop deductive reasoning skills.
Ratio Inquiry
This disquisition and exploration introduces pupils to multiplicative reasoning.
The open nature of the task allows for progression through Bloom's Taxonomy. Begin with one example on the board to help pupils understand the nature of the task, before moving onto to 2 questions for pupils to independantly complete. Finally, there is the option for pupils to create thier own question in this style, to test their comprehension.
