Algebra and Graphs

This collection of resources is produced by the Core Maths Support Programme to support the implementation of Core Maths. The collection contains a range of activities all designed to enable students to use and apply algebra and graphs in unfamiliar contexts.


Reading Age

In this activity students tackle the problem of assigning a level of difficulty of various texts and books. The reading age is about the level of difficulty of text rather than the reading competence of the reader. The resource comprises an overview, teacher guidance and a student handout.


Rich aunt

This Core Maths activity allows students to explore the difference between linear and exponential sequences and their sums.

Simple compound interest

This Core Maths activity introduces the concept of simple and compound interest and its effect on the amount by which an investment grows over time. To complete the activity students will use an Excel spreadsheet to calculate and compare the interest amounts accrued.
