English in the school grounds: learning through landscapes

The premise of this book is that the school grounds provide a largely unexploited opportunity for just such field trips. School grounds are a territory where the imagination can engage with reality -  for the grounds of the school are its wildlife park, where insects and animals carry on their discreet negotiations with humanity. It is in the school grounds that the seasons leave their unmistakable signature and it is here too that children create their most uninhibited dramas.

This book provides inspiration for a series of activities in story-telling, poetry-writing, drama and language work. There are also chapters based on speaking and listening, reading, and writing.
