Louise Herbert
Secondary Science Lead, STEM Learning
I was a teacher for 20 years, being in charge of KS3, 4, Head of Science and level 3 Health and Social care as well as an Advanced Skills Teacher and lead practitioner working on improving teaching and learning in science departments and across different school subjects. I have always aimed to help students reach their potential at GCSE and A level and develop my teaching by constantly trying to learn and develop.
Why should teachers engage with CPD?
I believe it is really important to develop both your general pedagogy and teaching skills, but also subject specific knowledge and understanding to do the best for every student you teach. STEM learning is there to support at the start of your career, through to giving fresh ideas and perspectives even if you have taught for years!
Why I'm passionate about education
STEM education is so vital, not just for jobs in these fields but also for an understanding and literacy of the world around us. It is how we make sense of things and create a better future!
