As School Improvement Director for a Multi-Academy Trust and Director of a large Area Learning Partnership, I supported several schools successfully through Ofsted inspections successfully, established a wide range of school improvement services. As Director of Research & Development for a large Multi-Academy Trust, I led two large DfE-funded school improvement programmes. As a Local Area Partnership Science Consultant, I developed subject networks for science leaders, teachers and technicians, which led to sustained school-to-school support after the completion of the work of the partnership. As a Triple Science Adviser, I provided advisory support on behalf of the Triple Science Support Programme to over 35 schools, including coaching and mentoring of leaders and training of teachers. Action plans were followed with each school and targeted support provided. As a middle leader in three 11-18 schools, I introduced Applied Science A-level in one school, and oversaw increased GCSE results in others. I introduced Triple Science GCSE into three schools and led a successful application for Science Specialist College status. I introduced science club for KS3 pupils, which proved popular with 20+ pupils attending weekly and helped pupils at the school achieve the first ever (old NC) level 8 grades achieved in science at KS3 due to accelerated learning programme.
Why should teachers engage with CPD?
STEM Learning CPD is well thought out, informed by evidence and leads to actions which will make a positive difference to leaders, teachers and pupils. It is quality assured and has impact figures well above the industry standard. I know from the CPD that I've participated in over the years the positive impact that it has had on my practice and pupils.
Why I'm passionate about education
An effective STEM education widens opportunities for children. It helps them develop skills and attributes that mean that they become well-rounded citizens that can make a meaningul contribution to society.
