Cancer Research UK: Cancer lesson plans
Downloadable lesson plans to teach about cancer linked to the GCSE, PSHE and Citizenship curriculum. Topics include: what is cancer; ethical issues surrounding the use of human tissues in research; design a health campaign; viruses in cancer and the possible impacts of a vaccine for cervical cancer.
Drugscope
This web site, aimed at 11-14 year olds, provides responsible information about drug effects, the law and how to stay safe. Most useful are the 20 different projects on drugs, alcohol and tobacco that include structured guidance through the project, with relevant reading lists and websites e.g. Drugs in sport.

The NIH website offers a wealth of educational resources on many aspects of health. It is aimed at an American audience, so curriculum links are to US specifications.
Cradle to grave
Cradle to Grave is an art installation housed in the British Museum's Wellcome Trust Gallery. It charts a pharmaceutical journey through the lives of an average U.K. couple. The result is a striking cultural exploration of what it means to be healthy, ill, and British.
Fighting to end tuberculosis
Dr Helen McShane from the University of Oxford is conducting the first trials to test the efficacy of a new tuberculosis vaccine in South African Infants. In this film, she discusses the new vaccine, the trials and what success could promise.

Exploring the history of medicine
'Brought to Life' is a website provided by the Science Museum (London) and funded by the Wellcome Trust. It offers access to images of thousands of objects from the Museum’s medical collections. The site incorporates detailed descriptions, introductions to major themes in the history of medicine and multimedia resources. A teachers section allows you to create and build your own resources and offers ideas for lessons.

Wellcome Trust: Animations
From the Wellcome Trust, these short animations can be downloaded and used in the classroom. The animations help students to understand a range of biological processes and diseases. These include:
• The genome, methods used in DNA sequencing and the translation and transcription of DNA into proteins
• The transmission and symptoms of diseases caused by protozoa such as Leishmaniasis, malaria, trypanosomiasis and Chagas' disease.
• Viral diseases including HIV and Dengue.
• Parasitic worms that cause schistosomiasis, intestinal worms and lymphatic filariasis.
• Diseases, such as syphilis, caused by bacteria.
The animations are suitable for students of secondary school age ranges. They can be used as an introduction to the topic or as a way to reinforce learning.
