Support for mathematics

With the mathematics GCSE exams safely over for another year, you might be lucky enough to have some ‘gained time’ this half term. Usually, thoughts will turn to how best to prepare for the next academic year.

Whether you are planning how to engage with subject-specific CPD, reviewing your scheme of work, developing links with industry or brightening up your displays, STEM Learning has you covered.

Bursary-supported mathematics CPD

Every term, we host a range of residential courses for secondary mathematics teachers, details of which can be found in this flyer. Each course attracts a substantial ENTHUSE bursary, which can be accessed by teachers and technicians in state-funded schools and colleges in the UK.

Whether you are newly qualified, a non-specialist, experienced head of key stage or department lead, we have something for you.

Resources, support and top tips

Our online resource collection contains over 4,000 quality assured mathematics resources, freely available to teachers. We have mapped our favourite resources against the key Stage 3 and 4 curriculum, and by A level and Core Maths subjects. You can find the here:

If you are rewriting your scheme of work, our mathematics specialist, Steve Lyon, talks about his experiences in this blog and gives some top tips to get you started.

Give your classroom a new lease of life

By this time of year, the walls of your classroom might be looking a little bit tired. This collection of free posters can help.

If you have a classroom display that you are particularly pleased with, you might want to share it with the world in our classroom display community group.

Online CPD: learn wherever, whenever

Online CPD is a great way of engaging with external CPD without leaving your classroom. All of our online CPD is free to join, and often run a number of times a year.

Our courses cover differentiation, assessment (both with Dylan William), behaviour for learning (with Paul Dix) and our latest course, the science of learning (with Paul Howard-Jones).

Enrichment opportunities

STEM Insight placements provide a unique opportunity for education staff to experience life in a modern industry or a leading university.

STEM Ambassadors can also help bring STEM careers into maths classrooms. STEM Ambassadors are volunteers from a wide range of STEM-related jobs and disciplines across the UK. They offer their time and enthusiasm (for free!) to help bring STEM subjects to life.
