Sir Mike Griffiths praises the National Science Learning Centre

Sir Mike Griffiths, chair of the National Science Learning Network Strategy Group, has written a blog for SecEd.

This blog proposes a suggestion that teachers, as professionals, should control the curriculum. This would help to ensure that plenty of outstanding people are attracted to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teaching.

Mike also highlights the need to guarantee that all teachers are given the opportunity to develop and train to keep their knowledge up-to-date, as this will ultimately have a massive impact on the next generation of STEM teachers.

Both the National Science Learning Centre and the National STEM Centre have been praised by making sure that the training given has an impact on students, not just teachers. Emphasis has been put on making teachers’ professional development an entitlement, as opposed to just an optional extra.
