The aim of this activity is to encourage discussion about the nature of relationships between variables. It provides examples of relationships where there may appear to be correlation but not necessarily a causal relationship. The task is suitable for group or individual work and internet access may be beneficial.

Comprehensive teaching notes are provided in this Word document. Guidance is given about suitable approaches and possible questions to pose. Issues raised include sport and recreation, medical research, use of drugs and alcohol. There are hyper-links to other possible resources which could help to make the decision making more relevant.

The student handout is on pages 13-16. The task is suitable for group work and internet access may be beneficial.
