Summary

Explore how to develop a robust curriculum that provides a solid foundation for students to successfully progress into GCSE design and technology.
 
Through a combination of workshop sessions, department self-assessment and practical activity, gain ideas for developing a design and technology curriculum that is learning focused, with the vision to support students into further D&T study. Please note, this course does not include content to support food technology.

Who is it for?

This course will support secondary heads of department and teaching staff. (Note this course has been renamed from ‘Getting it Right in Key Stage 3, Laying Good Foundations for design and technology GCSE’. Participants that attended the previousely titled course will experience repeated content)

What topics are covered?

This two day course covers: 
  • exploring your vision for your design and technology department
  • self-assessment of your curriculum content, including consideration of key stage 2, 3 and 4
  • exploring the steps needed to ensure your students are fully prepared for key assessment points
  • new ideas and approaches to teaching key skills and knowledge
  • a range of strategies and ideas to create an engaging curriculum, embedding progression and creativity
  • support for you to develop a personalised action plan for your department
  • signposting to resources to help you further develop your curriculum

This is a two day intensive residential course.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to: 
  • self-assess your design and technology curriculum, supporting student preparation for key assessment points
  • share new ideas and strategies for creating and engaging curriculum, embedding progression and creativity
  • create an action plan that supports you to develop your design and technology curriculum
