Summary

This two-day course will support your department to implement the new GCSE from 2017. It will give you the essential information that you need to embed change, along with ideas and strategies that will help you do this in a manageable way. The course content will include references to all material areas of the new GCSE’s, (note there will not be references to the Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE although content may be relevant to teaching and learning in food generally).
This is an exciting opportunity to review your D&T curriculum and to reflect on how your department might approach the new GCSEs from 2017.

During this course, we will:

Outline the changes at KS4 and what this means for your department.

Support you to develop a personalised action plan for your school. We will look at how to decide which parts of your curriculum to change, how to implement those changes and how to ensure that these changes secure a good foundation for learning from KS3 to KS5.

Examine the additional subject knowledge that you may need to prepare for the changes and look at further support and resources that are available.

Discover a wide range of strategies and ideas on how to create a curriculum that embeds progression and creativity, along with tried and tested tips on engaging all learners, including boys, G&T students, as well as weaker students. A key focus will be areas identified by Ofsted as key to maximizing performance e.g. effective use of assessment for learning, assessment without levels and higher order thinking skills.

The two days will give you the opportunity to develop an in depth understanding on what makes Design and Technology have the ‘wow’ factor and embed this into your department in a manageable way. There will be many ideas that are quick and easy to implement as well as strategies that are part of a longer term plan. There will also be lots of practical hands on activities that are transferable to the classroom.

This is a residential course, fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course.

Course fees vary for participants outside the UK.  Please contact enquiries@stem.org.uk  for more information.
