Summary

As our reliance on the internet grows, it’s important that we protect ourselves from cyber-attacks. From understanding how cyber-attacks are developed, to prevention methods; this short course supports schools in developing understanding of cyber security and provides advice on the best methods for ensuring a safe and secure online environment in your school.  

You will carry out an audit of how your school ensures a safe and secure online environment. Identifying what works and next steps for your school, as you progress through the training. You will explore potential threats to your schools and look at external and internal examples. You will investigate how best to prevent against cyber-attacks, whilst reviewing real-life examples and how they could have been overcome.

You will look at effective online safety policies, which include cyber, IT safety and data protection and consider where the responsibility for these lies within your setting.

You will explore how to: 

  • Defend yourself against phishing
  • Create strong passwords
  • Secure your devices
  • Report incidents 

You will consider acceptable use policies, coverage of Privacy and Security strands in the curriculum and explore resources available for classroom learning and to support families. 

Who is it for?

This course is for primary class teachers and subject leaders

What topics are covered?

Introduction to cybersecurity – you will explore what cybersecurity is, what threats are posed from using the internet and the prevention methods of how to overcome these threats.  

Threats and preventions – you will go deep into understand how threats are developed and what they aim to achieve. You will gain understanding of how to prevent against threats.

School responsibilities – you will look at preventative online safety measures for schools and individuals and explore classroom resources

How will you learn?

Scheduled live, interactive online session led by an experienced practitioner.

How long is this course?

This 90 min course will include a pre-course audit, a 60 minute session and a post-course implementation task.

  • understand what cybersecurity is and its importance when using the internet
  • know some of the threats to cyber security and the prevention methods available
  • be able to support learning around privacy and security in your school
