Summary
If you need help raising the profile of science in your school then this is the course for you.
Whether you are new to the role of science subject leader or have been the leader for a couple of years, you will be supported to bring about change at a whole school level.You will receive guidance, advice and support to help you understand the role of the subject leader and find out about science in your school.
Working with experienced primary teachers you will explore a range of strategies to create a vision for science teaching and learning.
You will build confidence and develop the expertise to support your colleagues to deliver effective and engaging science for pupils in your school.
Who is it for?
Subject leaders in primary science who are new to the role, or who aspire to move into it.
Science subject leads who have been in the role for up to two years.
What topics are covered?
This four day course covers:
- the role of the science subject lead
- auditing and monitoring science in my school
- creating a vision for primary science in my school
- resourcing and supporting primary science
- progression in subject knowledge and working scientifically
- assessing primary science - subject knowledge and working scientifically
- guiding and working with your primary team
- taking science outdoors
- enriching the primary science curriculum
How will you learn?
Face to face sessions at the National STEM Learning Centre in York.
How long is this course?
This is a four day residential course with an independent gap task to complete between training periods.

Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- lead improvement in the quality of science teaching and learning within your school
- develop strategies to embed your vision for primary science in your school
- monitor provision of both science content, enquiry and pupil’s progress
