Summary

Are you new to teaching biology at Key Stage 4? Develop your pedagogical and subject knowledge with a focus on the key principles needed to teach biology effectively.
 
Teaching Key Stage 4 biology will support you by helping you to develop the use of stimulating demonstration and other practical activities. We will also cover a wide range of topics to help increase your subject knowledge.

This course will be delivered remotely on the days and times detailed below. 


Who is it for?

For experienced teachers who are not scientists but are required to teach Key Stage 4 biology. Scientists who are not biology specialists or teachers who have limited experience of delivering Key Stage 4 biology.

What topics are covered?

This two day course covers: 
  • ⚪   addressing common misconceptions in biology

    ⚪   core biology practicals

    ⚪   development of key biology practical skills

    ⚪   respiration

    ⚪   osmosis

    ⚪   practical management and making risk assessment


How long is the course?

This is a two day intensive course which will be delivered remotely on the days and times detailed below.
To participate in full you will need to ensure you have dedicated time away from the classroom, as you would if this were a face to face course. We will take regular breaks and structure the content so that it is interactive and impactful.
 
You must attend all sessions in order to receive the bursary, sessions will not be recorded.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

    ✔️   teach Key Stage 4 biology with increased confidence using a range of teaching strategies to assess student's prior understanding

    ✔️   develop your management of pracatical activities and making risk assessment
