Summary

The F1 in Schools STEM Challenge is for students aged 9-19 and aims to help change the perceptions of STEM subjects by creating a fun learning environment for young people. This CPD will give school and college staff the skills needed to run The F1 in Schools STEM Challenge with students, as well as developing knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) and CNC manufacture.

Get hands-on instructions on how to design, analyse, manufacture, test and race, miniature gas powered F1 model block cars.
Learn how to use Autodesk Fusion 360 to create computer models of cars, ready for rendering and testing. Developed design skills during that are transferable for those wishing to teach CAD outside of the F1 in Schools STEM Challenge. In addition to CAD modelling, we will also look at creating parts, assemblies and engineering drawings.

The second part of this course will look at CNC manufacture, using a CNC Router and 3D printer. Experience how to output CAD drawings for CNC manufacture and have the opportunity to try this with your own designs.

As well as keeping any designs and models that you produce during this course, you will also gain access to the F1 in Schools Curriculum Resource, a set of cross-curricular materials to help you run a project based on the F1 in Schools competition. The resource contains over 60 fully-resourced session plans – everything you need for running the project in your school.

More about the F1 in Schools competition:
