Summary

Genetics is one area of biology that could have the biggest impact on us in the future and it's an integral part of the biology syllabus. When teaching it, the biggest issue is the lack of easy, successful practical work that helps underpin students' understanding of this complex topic. This course has been designed for technicians to learn about the practicals out there, how to prepare them, help run them and troubleshoot them to make sure they are effective for students to use. We will explore the range of equipment from different suppliers for DNA electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) procedures. We will also look at resources, models and games that can help students visualise biological process and some engaging genetics practicals for key stage 3 and key stage 4.

This is a residential course, fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course.  Course fees vary for participants outside the UK.  Please contact enquiries@stem.org.uk for more information.
