York physics day NY233 / A15
Participants on the CERN visit second residential period are invited to attend an event on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 June (starting immediately after the CERN follow-up conference at 16:30), which is being organised by the National STEM Learning Centre and the Department of Physics at York University.
The event includes a series of updates into current areas of physics research, which will allow you to take back ideas of contemporary physics which you may want to use in your teaching, as well as updating your own knowledge and interest in physics.
The course cost will be £85+VAT, but there will also be £120 bursary available, from project ENTHUSE. The course fee includes accommodation and dinner on Friday 17 June, in addition to the main day on Saturday. The bursary funding is available to all state schools, academies and free schools, as listed in the standard ENTHUSE terms and conditions. Additional night accommodation on the Saturday is available on request at £36+VAT, in case you want to make a weekend of it in York!
On the Friday evening, in addition to a number of short sessions there will be a pub-style talk before dinner, after which participants will be able to explore the locality, or head into York. We will provide a self-guided “Science Trail of York” for those who want to find out more about this historic city!
Participants will be able to:
- explore interesting and engaging areas of cutting edge physics
- develop relationships with early career researchers for further classroom engagement
- discover additional activities and resources to support their teaching of physics
