Summary

Have you just completed your teacher training or are you an NQT or in the early years of your teaching career? Are you a non-specialist teaching science for the first time?

This course introduces some of the misconceptions which students may bring into your classroom and will use current research to provide you with strategies to address them. It will also provide you with ideas to teach biology effectively through stimulating practical activities and demonstrations.

This is a residential course, fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course.

Outcomes

You will be able to:

  • demonstrate the ability to use a wider range of approaches to teaching and learning and classroom organisation
  • demonstrate a broad repertoire of skills in practical biology
  • apply an extended range of Assessment for Learning (AfL) strategies to promote students’ learning in science
  • integrate more opportunities for the teaching of Working Scientifically in a range of contexts
