Preparing to teach mathematics and science content in the new engineering GCSE TY224 / A16
Summary
This two day course is designed to support teachers to develop their subject knowledge in science and mathematics, ready for delivery of the new GCSE engineering curriculum.
With support from our science and mathematics specialists, we will investigate the subject knowledge needed to solve real life engineering problems and develop teaching methods for delivery in the classroom.
The mathematics content covered during the course will help with the teaching of rearranging equations, calculations of scientific measurements (such as load, stiffness, Young’s Modulus, etc…), scale, converting units, fractions, calculating bulk costs, ratio, tolerances and understanding graphs.
The science content covered during this course will help with the teaching of material properties (and materials testing), structural systems, pneumatic / hydraulic systems, calculating forces and strength, Young’s Modulus, and aerodynamics.
As part of the course, we will provide free teaching resources to support your teaching of Science and Maths, and our online community group will ensure that you are one email away from our subject specialists when you go back to the classroom.
This is a residential course, fees include meals and accommodation for the duration of the course.
Course fees vary for participants outside the UK. Please contact enquiries@stem.org.uk for more information.
Outcomes
You will be able to:
