I am currently a Biology/Chemistry Technician at Thomas Alleyne Academy, but am originally a molecular biologist who specialised in the genetic abnormalities in paediatric brain tumours. I worked at the Institute of Neurology/National Hospital for Neurosurgery for 16 years and gained my PhD in 2004. Since 2014 I have been working as a school science technician and love the variety our job brings. No two days are ever the same and there is never a dull moment! We (2 technicians) currently service 8 labs with 11 teachers, and approximately 1000 students. I run a thriving science club with my fellow technician and we were awarded a Bronze Quality mark in 2022. I have been a facilitator for Amgen and STEM Learning since 2021, and took over as the lead technician facilitator for the Herts & Essex SLP in Feb 2022. I have recently finished my Lead PDL training, and look forward to supporting and training fellow technicians in best practice.
