I currently teach 3 days a week, based in a primary school in the East Riding of Yorkshire where I am the Maths subject leader and part of the SLT. I spend the rest of my time supporting a wide range of institutions either as a Specialist Leader of Education or as an independent CPD consultant and I also present primary maths courses at the National STEM Learning Centre.
I have a PGC in Primary Mathematics Education, am an NCETM PD Lead and an accredited STEM Associate Facilitator.
A visit to Shanghai in 2014 initiated my long-term research into the use of the mastery approach to develop a deep understanding in maths concepts and effective teaching strategies. I have worked with many colleagues both as part of a Maths Hub TRG and as a consultant, supporting teachers in developing maths teaching in their own schools.
With 25 years of teaching experience across Key Stage 1 and 2, I am frequently asked to review new resources for both maths schemes and for individual resource creators. In addition, I spend time exploring pedagogy and resources through personal inquiry and share many examples of activities and children’s work through Twitter.
