Girls into STEM
Girls into STEM is a popular programme of events aimed at encouraging girls to take an interest in STEM subjects. Pupils are targeted prior to the selection of GCSE subjects.
Events are arranged for groups of between 15 and 45 pupils in one session. Visits include: SONY UK, SPECIFIC, BT, GE Aviation, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, Aberystwyth University and University of Wales Trinity Saint David Swansea and many more.
The programme includes:
- An introduction to the company/organisation
- A site tour
- Practical hands-on activities
- Inspiring talks by female role models
These events encourage pupils to become more aware of the career opportunities for females in industry and to see the relevance of STEM subjects related to such opportunities.
“It has encouraged me to do what I want even if it's stereotyped for boys”
“Made me more aware of what jobs require science and maths”
