Formulae, reacting masses, yields and atom economy
This list contains resources for :
- calculation of empirical and molecular formulae
- reacting mass calculations
- chemical yield and atom economy
Whilst this list provides a source of information and ideas for experimental work, it is important to note that recommendations can date very quickly. Do NOT follow suggestions which conflict with current advice from CLEAPSS, SSERC or other recent safety guides. eLibrary users are responsible for ensuring that any activity, including practical work, which they carry out is consistent with current regulations related to Health and Safety and that they carry an appropriate risk assessment. SCISP Topic Book: Chemical Formulae and Equations
Although dated, this textbook is a good source of information and contains some good sets of questions that could be repurposed. The topics covered are mass, the mole and chemical formulae.
Moles and Reacting Masses
This website gives instructions on how to run a group activity reinforcing knowledge of calculating relative atomic mass, percentage of an element in a compound and masses of reactants and products. This is designed as a group activity but as there is a downloadable student sheet, it could equally be used individually as a homework activity.
