Year 1 & 2: Addition and Subtraction
This list consists of visual resources, activities and games designed to support the new curriculum programme of study in Years 1 and 2. Containing tips on using the resources and suggestions for further use, it covers:
Year 1: Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving addition (+), subtraction (–) and equals (=) signs, represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20, add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero, solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, missing number problems.
Year 2: Solve problems with addition and subtraction using concrete objects and pictorial representations, including numbers, quantities and measures, applying mental and written methods, recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100, add and subtract numbers using concrete objects, pictorial representations, and mentally, including: a two-digit number and ones, a two-digit number and tens, two two-digit numbers, adding three one-digit numbers, show that addition of two numbers can be done in any order (commutative) and subtraction of one number from another cannot, use the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction to check calculations and solve missing number problems.

Games involving addition and subtraction facts
A selection of interactive games which could be used as a starter, plenary or to practise recalling and using addition and subtraction facts to 20, and to derive and use related facts up to 100. The games may be set for learners at different levels.
Starting Number Skills
A treasure chest of 40 activity work sheets and games linked to many of the mathematical topics in KS1. Many activities allow children to become confident at recognising numbers as numerals and pictorial representations before recognising them as words, including a range of engaging problem solving challenges encouraging application of understanding in addition & subtraction in numbers up to 10.
Maths Chest 3 - Number: Pack 2
Aimed at upper Key Stage One, this is an older resource which provides games and activities and practise worksheets. They could be used with the whole class or with smaller groups practising specific topics. It also provides a range of ideas for classroom development and ideas for continuous provision.
Calculation Games for Students Aged 5-7
A selection of 19 games, published by Be A Mathmetician (BEAM), provide a range of opportunities to practise all aspects of addition and subtraction through concrete, abstract and pictoral methods.
