KS4 Higher Standard Form
This set of resources provides resources for the teaching of KS4 Higher Standard Form:
Introduces Standard Form: The YouTube video was my start for teaching this subject that has no advertisements and gives a steady but detailed introduction using worked examples and covers the misunderstandings pupils often make.
Start the Pupils working: The set of cards allows pupils to be split into teams and gives a fun activity whilst the book gives a more traditional approach.
Ensure they understand: The calculator provides and excellent interactive lessons and the set of cards was a good way to introduce the subject.
Revise the subject: Via BBC's Bitesize website.
Introduction via Youtube
My favorite introduction to converting to and from Standard Form using the 'move the decimal place' approach to teaching this method. Includes numbers both less and greater than 1 and hence negative powers of 10.
Estimating Length Using Standard Form N4
This resource contains a valuable set of cards after printing and laminating onto thin card.
Set 1 contains pictures of real world objects eg: Height of a door
Set 2 contains the measurements, in normal form, so the real world objects are matched to their size
Set 3 contains measurements in standard form
Set 4 contains comparisions of the difference in sizes
So from a combination of 46 cards ten sets of 3 cards are produced. Ideal for a fun plenary.
Number LSIS

BBC Bitesize
A simple way for pupils to revise or ensure they understand standard form by predicting the answers on their web pages. Just do the first two pages as the third page level is too high for most.
Number and Algebra 4, Nuffield Foundation
Pages 11 and 12 give a standard introduction to standard form and a handful of good questions.
