Inspiration for cross curricular projects
Case studies
A number of case studies describing ways in which departments have worked together.
Engineering in the New Curriculum
The video illustrates the stages of a collapsed-timetable day split into three sessions designed to show the importance of science and maths in engineering.
In the first session students work in groups and build a basic solar buggy with the help of instructions. It is in the second session where the engineering begins, as the students seek to modify the design of their buggy with the aim of winning the race towards the end of the day. Finally students are introduced to some of the underlying mathematics.
Bath Bombs and Rockets
Combining science, design and technology, and maths, these Year Nine students take part in a challenge to imagine they are running their own cosmetics companies. As part of the project they must design, build, market and sell their own bath bombs. In their design and technology class, they vacuum-form the bomb's moulds and work on their packaging design. Meanwhile, in science they look at the chemistry of bath bombs, and in maths they explore the financial side of their businesses.
Mission X
'Train Like An Astronaut' is aimed at Year 7 students and includes the science behind fitness training and healthy eating with data handling.
