Mean, Mode and Median
This is a set of resources for the teaching of Higher Mean, Mode, Median and Range. It also can be used for foundation as most of the resources are applicable.
There are plenty of good practical ideas within these and an excellent lesson to finish with that would be suitable for an observed lesson as a comprehensive lesson plan is available.
Handling Data 1
Start on page 11 (unit 2) of this book for an introduction to the averages. Practical examples are given in the order of mean, mode, median but does not cover the range. There are many questions and an excellent source of practical uses for these averages.
The resource has a separate pdf that contains many worksheets for the averages these are on page 11 and extension work on page 19. Answers are on page 28 and 33.
Handling Data 1
Start on page 1 that gives a more comprehensive introduction to the mean for the more able pupils. Repeated values are considered, and introduces frequency tables. The range is examined on page 7.
For more able pupils working backwards from the mean is examined in detail. Pupils are given the mean and a question and many practical examples are given.
The resource has a separate pdf that contains many worksheets for the averages these are on page 11 and extension work on page 20. Answers are on page 37 and 42.
Probability rulers are provided on page 31 with decimals, fractions and percentages that could be printed and stuck onto the back cover of pupil's workbooks.
Worksheets - Statistics and Probability
This is a broad set of resources for this whole topic. In particular there are worksheets for mean (includes standard deviation) and cumulative frequency and data handling. For this topic I only used the mean section that can also be downloaded as an .odt and can open in Word.
