General Physics (secondary school)
Institute of Physics
The Institute of Physics has a fascinating and diverse membership that ranges from students, through qualified professionals in all disciplines, to the still interested and involved retired community. Physics teachers will find fantastic teaching and learning resources as well as a place to form positive connections with others who share their fascination.
Colliding particles
Colliding Particles is a series of online films following a real world process of scientific research at the frontline of particle physics, at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland. The site explores the mechanisms of scientific research, such as publishing and peer review, conferences and also includes educational resources to use as part of the 'How Science Works' strand of the national curriculum.
Physics simulations
Some really good physics simulations produced by the Physics Education Technology Project, based at Colorado University. Simulations cover the following areas: motion, energy, sound and waves, circuits, electricity and magnetism, light and radioactivity.
The vacuum bazooka
The Naked Scientist's Kitchen Specialist, Dave Ansell, presents his custom built vacuum bazooka. Utilising plastic pipes, tubes and foam covered ammunition, the vacuum bazooka produces rapid firing projectiles.
From butterfly wings to metamaterials
A short video in which John Pendry, of Imperial College London, explains how the wing structure of the Blue Adonis butterfly inspired and informed his cutting-edge research into metamaterials.
