Ask a biologist
Ask a biologist offers access to a diverse group of scientists involved in professional research and science communication. The site is designed to give children direct access to scientists who can provide the answers. Scientists include those who work in museums and universities, science writers, fossil preparators and conservators, doctoral students, professors, independent researchers, conservationists and everything in between.
Kew Education: Climbers and creepers
Animated learning resource from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew providing a colourful introduction to garden insects and plants (bees, butterflies, snails, spiders and worms) through stories, games (plant homes around the world and plant maker) and colouring activities.
Walking with woodlice
Pupil-friendly mini-site from the Natural History Museum. See the results of the national survey that took place in 2004.
Investigating woodlice movement
This simple investigation allows children to investigate how woodlice move through an artificial maze. They interpret the results and look for patterns in the data. More activities are found in the 'Bug Club' which is for youngsters interested in insects and other minibeasts. There are a selection of caresheets to help those who want to keep insects and other invertebrates.
