Computing Systems And Networks - Sharing Information
In this unit, Year 5 pupils will develop their understanding of computer systems and how information is transferred between systems and devices. Pupils will have the opportunities to consider both small-scale and large scale-systems and explain the input, output and process aspects of a variety of real-world systems. Pupils will learn to work as part of a collaborative online group with other class members in order to develop skills of working together through a digital device. This unit provided by the National Centre for Computing Education covers key areas of the Upper Key Stage 2 computing curriculum;
- Use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
- Understand computer networks including the internet; how they can provide multiple services such as the world wide web; and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration,
- Work with variables and various forms of input and output,
- Select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information.
In this session, pupils will reflect on how they worked together in previous lessons and how their working together could be improved. The activities gives pupils the opportunity to work on an unplugged activity and use that experience to develop their ideas of good collective working practices. Pupils will suggest...

Pupils will be supported to recognise that working together on the...
This resource provides a unit overview for the Year 5 ‘Computing Systems and Networks- Sharing Information Overview’ unit of work. It gives a clear overview of objectives to be covered within each session and a learning graph to show the range of skills being developed through this computing unit. Also included is...
