Better Explanations in Secondary Science - South Yorkshire Delegates RB298 / B08
Summary
Explanations are important to teachers and students. Being able to explain a concept or idea clearly is a skill which effective teachers use every day. It is the foundation on top of which the success or failure of other forms of teaching can depend.
Similarly, the difference between a good and poor explanation can result in lost marks for a 6-mark question in a GCSE exam.
This course will examine the features of good explanations and consider how we can give better explanations in class and teach students to do the same.
Outcomes
- to consider the features of a good teacher explanation and how we can give better explanations when teaching
- to develop ways to develop student explanations to maximise their performance in GCSE exams.
