STEM learning

In June and July this year, Year 12 students have the opportunity to attend free food science courses at four different sites around the country.

Each course is a two to three day residential, giving students the opportunity to get a taste of university life at the same time as discovering more about the food industry.

“Food science summer schools are designed to give young people a taste of what working in areas like product development, food safety and quality is like.

There is currently a shortage of scientists studying food science and going on to use their skills and knowledge in the food industry. The food science summer schools are a way to make students aware of the variety of exciting careers and opportunities on offer.”

The four host locations this year are:

  • University of Leeds
  • Newcastle University
  • University of Nottingham
  • University of Reading

If you have students that would like to apply, visit the IGD website to find out how they can register.
